NBA Relocation Rumors
There are several factors allowing a National Basketball Association team to decide to relocate. Many of these include the losses incurred in it basketball operations, number of people in attendance per game as well as sponsorships.
One of the team’s in the league that might potentially be moving is the Atlanta Hawks. The team lost nearly $5.6 million dollars in 2008 and attendance usually ranks at the bottom of the league. The ownership of the team seems to be troubled as it usually creates fractions among them.
Charlotte Bobcats is another team that might be moving soon. Although they had gained a notable profit sometime 2008, the relationship between the owner Bob Johnson and the city become acrimonious. Its value has declined by an estimated amount of $25 million dollars since joining the league.
Lastly, the surprise run of the New Orleans Hornets during the 2009 NBA Playoffs has allowed the team to average 16,783 in attendance. Though huge, it still ranked 26th overall. Next season, the team needs to hit the average of 14,735 in attendance so owner George Shinn won’t be opting out.
